Personal and business correspondence of members of the Fripp family, mostly consisting of the papers of sisters Julia Fripp (1845-1918) and Anna Fripp Chaplin (1837-1894). Letter, 13 Nov. 1838, from William Fripp (1815-1861) to Edward Fripp of Bristol, England, describing his return journey in 1836 to England and giving news of the American branch of the family. Ten letters, 1863 to 1866, to Julia Fripp from her father, brother, and friends giving news of their fate during the Civil War; including a letter, cir. 1863, from her father re his work as a physician in a military hospital, including descriptions of the combat experiences of his patients who were veterans of the Battle of Morris Island; also includes three letters written by Milton Fripp (28 Jan. 1864, 13 Feb. 1865, 31 March 1865) written to his sister Julia Fripp re his military experience in the Confederate Army. Correspondence between 1882 and 1893 document attempts of the Fripp and Chaplin families to gain restitution from the U.S. government for property lost during Civil War.
